Anti-coal Export Groups File Legal Petition For Coal Study

A dozen Northwest groups file a legal petition with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. They want the corps to study the environmental impacts of transporting coal from mines in Montana and Wyoming to export terminals on Puget Sound and the Columbia River.

Natural Gas Drillers Eye the Northwest

Fallout from a recent natural gas boom has spread across the country. The Northwest is starting to see interest in gas drilling, too.

Communities could reap economic benefits, but some residents also worry about consequences, ranging from water and air pollution to new pipelines and gas-processing plants.
